School Uniform

At Stoke Bishop, we are very proud of our school uniform and expect all children to wear it. We expect parents to uphold the school dress code:

School Uniform

  • Grey skirt, pinafore dress, shorts or trousers;
  • White school polo shirt with school logo;
  • Navy blue jumper / cardigan with school logo;
  • Blue/white checked dresses;
  • White or grey socks / tights;
  • Flat or low heeled black/plain shoes – no boots or trainers
  • Spring/Summer – Sandals open toed inline with school colours – grey, black, blue, white (with socks) or closed toed inline with school colours – grey, black, blue, white (without socks) – no crocs or similar designs.

PE Kit

  • Navy blue cotton shorts;
  • White crew neck T-Shirt with school logo;
  • black/grey plain Trainers / plimsolls with white socks.

Other items

  • Navy blue book bag with school logo;
  • Navy blue PE bag with school logo;
  • Navy blue fleece with school logo.

There is no need to have a logo on every item of clothing. There are lots of cheaper alternatives that parents may wish to buy and this can help massively with budgets. School bags do not need to be large or branded, a simple small rucksack big enough to carry a lunch box, water bottle and reading book is all that is needed.

Second Hand Uniform – Second hand uniform can be purchased through the school PTA who have regular sales throughout the year. If you need items more urgently please contact the school office who will be happy to help.

If you require any support with accessing the correct uniform then please come and speak to us and we will do all we can to help you with this.

As most clothing in the school is identical, it is essential that everything, including shoes, is marked clearly with your child’s name.

Jewellery is not allowed in school except analogue/ digital watches and stud earrings, which should be removed for all PE lessons. No smart watches that are able to be take pictures, access apps, tracked via GPS or recieve data to them. Simple fitness watches such as fit bits that have no added GPS or apps on them are acceptable. Nail varnish is also not allowed. All of the above relate to health, safety and safeguarding.

Warmer weather Guidance

While we recognise that some sun exposure is beneficial, over-exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR) is a significant safeguarding concern in schools. During the warmer months, children are often exposed to UVR during peak intensity hours, typically between 11am and 3pm. Without appropriate protection, a child’s sensitive skin can burn easily, leading to cumulative and potentially irreversible damage.

Clothing as Sun Protection
Clothing is one of the most effective forms of protection against UVR and should always be the first line of defence. Ideally, children should wear clothing that covers as much skin as possible. Shoulders, in particular, must be covered, as they are highly susceptible to sunburn.  A hat is also a must during warmer days.  Whist a broad brimmed hat is preferable a baseball cap is also acceptable.  Just remember that these do not always protect the back of the neck.

Sunscreen Recommendations

  • Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 or higher and a minimum 4-star UVA rating.
  • Apply generously to clean, dry, exposed skin before school when the UV Index is 3 or above.
  • Clearly label the sunscreen with your child’s name and class, and ensure it is brought to or kept at school for reapplication as needed.  Roll on types are much easier for children to use.
  • Check that the sunscreen is within its expiry date. If no date is printed, look for the open jar symbol (e.g., 12M), which indicates the number of months it remains effective after opening.
  • Store sunscreen in a cool, dry place, as heat can degrade its effectiveness.

Sunscreen Application in School

  • Pupils are encouraged to self-apply sunscreen under supervision as a practical and age-appropriate approach.
  • Parents can support this by teaching and encouraging self-application at home to build independence and promote healthy habits.  Children should also be reminded that they must not share sunscreen with other children as some children have skin allergies and sensitivities.
  • School staff, cannot be required to apply sunscreen to pupils, unless this is something that is already in place for a specific reason.
  • For very young children or those with special needs, parents should contact the school for guidance and any necessary support arrangements.
