Our EDI journey is linked heavily to the development of Pupil Leadership as a demonstration of and vehicle for, building children’s independence. The aim is to see children taking a lead in the decision making around their learning and in so doing also taking responsibility for it. One of the biggest enablers is to give children roles as monitors / mentors. It allows them to see that they can make decisions, influence and support others.

All children will either be or have a buddy, starting with our Year 6 children buddying Reception. This takes place on a 1-1 basis as well as through joint year group activities (eg making books and reading to others or teaching specific sporting skills). The impact of this is significant, with genuine cross year group bonds being made, it makes a huge difference to both the buddy and the buddied, where they are discussing and working on core skills.
