My name is Mr David Forrester and I am the head teacher at Stoke Bishop Church of England Primary School, an independent academy in the north of the city of Bristol.
Whether you are an existing parent or a prospective parent I hope that our website will give you a flavour of our school and the opportunities and experiences the children, who attend our school, have access to. I hope you will find the information on our website useful.
On 1st April 2013 we became an Academy. As a successful school we have converted independently. We believe that being funded directly by the Department of Education gives us greater freedoms in order to give our pupils the best primary education possible. We are also part of a learning partnership with local schools, NW24, and work collaboratively with other schools within this network.
We are a church school and have close links with St Mary’s Church in Stoke Bishop. Our school vision is that within the Christian ethos of our church school we inspire our children to be happy and healthy individuals, enthusiastic and successful learners and caring and responsible citizens. Please see the website pages for more information on our School Vision, Mission and Values and read our most recent ‘Outstanding’ SIAMS (Church inspection) report to find out more about our Christian ethos.
Academically our children do extremely well. Our results at the end of Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 are above National and Key Stage 2 are well above national in all subjects. We are in the top 3% of schools in England for progress from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 and the top school in Bristol for the percentage of children achieving higher standards in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
As a school we have a focus on learning both in terms of academic success and progress but also in helping children become effective life-long learners (ELLI). Through a focus on seven learning dimensions we give the children a shared language of learning and an understanding of the skills they need in order to become successful learners.
As a school we have a strong commitment to curricular and extra-curricular learning and offer a wide range of opportunities to our children. Our curriculum commitment to children includes our lessons, routines, clubs, residential trips, class trips, the visitors and speakers who come into school and share their expertise, assemblies and other acts of worship, play times, sports days, productions and other school events e.g. music proms, Arts weeks , Science days etc.
We are a successful school but continue to work hard and strive for excellence in all areas. We have children who are enthusiastic, polite and caring, parents who are supportive both to the school and towards their child’s learning and development and a very dedicated and professional staff who ensure the children enjoy their learning and make good progress through taking part in exciting and motivating lessons and experiences.
Please contact the school office if you are unable to find the information you require or to arrange a visit.
